The centenary World Cup is a live political fight: the approved format is 48, but CONMEBOL is openly campaigning for a one-off 64 across three continents, and its president says it's happening. UEFA, the AFC and CONCACAF are publicly against. FIFA says the proposal gets examined after the 2026 tournament.
Resolves to the number of teams in the 2030 World Cup format as formally approved by the FIFA Council.

Settles when the Council formally confirms or changes the format, reaffirming the existing 48 counts as a decision. Closes 31 December 2027, 23:59 ET.
'Something else' covers any number that is neither 48 nor 64. If no formal confirmation has been made by the close date, the market voids and refunds rather than assuming the status quo held.
